For the purposes of this blog, the term 'Silverback" refers to any player over the age of fifty in the game. I know I know, there are players still in their teens who have the souls of ancients, and elders who instantly transform into adolescents when taking the identity of their avatar, but as a general rule the demarcation is useful.
The parent company of WOW has never, as far as I know, estimated how many of the active players are silverbacks. From remarks made by dedicated observers of the game, I think it's reasonable to believe there to be tens of thousands. That's a lot of older folks. And I think some attention should be devoted to their experiences playing an online game with a global reputation.
